At milepost 206, close to Smokey Point, traffic is being rerouted to the exit onto 172nd Street Northeast. The anticipated time of reopening is unknown.

While troopers investigate the collision, drivers are asked to take detours and allow extra time if they are traveling south.

Tuesday morning at 5:45 a.m., the Washington State Department of Transportation reported that the backlog had extended to Arlington. According to an update at 6:15 a.m., the backup had grown to 4 miles.

Tow trucks have shown up on the scene to start clearing the road. Authorities claim that a motorcyclist was killed when he was struck by a semi-truck while speeding.
