On Thursday, a small plane crashed at a mobile home park in Florida, killing multiple people in one of the homes and aboard the aircraft.
According to CNN, the pilot reported an engine failure just before the single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35 crashed into a residential area.
The plane crashed near the community of Bayside Waters, which is located on US Highway 19 south of Bay Boulevard. A widely shared video on the internet depicts the community erupting in flames and emitting smoke.
At a news briefing Thursday, city Fire Chief Scott Ehlers said, “I can confirm that we have several fatalities both from the aircraft and within the mobile home.” He did not specify how many died.
The number of victims is not yet known after the plane crash and fire in Clearwater, Florida. Fire Chief Scott Ehlers also did not provide the exact number of people killed in the accident.
Ehlers said the pilot had called for an emergency at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport shortly before the plane went out of radar range.
The airport is 11 kilometers southeast of Clearwater. US federal investigators will investigate, authorities said.
The occurrence of this incident takes place one week after a single-engine plane crashed into the ‘alligator alley’ of the Florida Everglades, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
