Bringing Up Pan-Asian Voices

The invaluable contributions made to the United States by individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) ancestry are acknowledged by Yale SOM.

We hope to explore the uniqueness of the Asian-American experience and celebrate the vast diversity of the Asian diaspora during this significant month in American history.

Although Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month is celebrated nationwide in May, the Asian American Cultural Center at Yale observes it in March and early April.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

We discussed the issue of “Nostalgia and the Path Forward” at a month-long series of events held at Yale during Pan Asian American Heritage Month (PAAHM) 2024.

In order to recognize PAAHM, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity at SOM collaborated with faculty, staff, and students.

A tailored Spotify playlist, book giveaways, an introductory tae kwon do class, a food takeover including recipes from throughout the Asian diaspora, and a talk by sociology PhD candidate Meera Choi on the 4B feminist movement in South Korea were among the events and programs that took place.

The Asian American and Pacific Islander Organization at SOM organized a range of events, such as panel discussions and a workshop on Vietnamese food.

These immersions aim to provide the community with a thorough and immersive experience of diverse cultures through taste, smell, touch, and thought. We cordially invite you to discover more about SOM’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and appreciating diversity.
