Upon graduating from the Olympic Reserve Specialized Sports School Slavutych in Cherkasy, Dovbyk is a product of the FC Cherkaskyi Dnipro academy. He was born in Cherkasy, Ukraine.
On July 26, 2014, he played against Skala in his professional debut. One month later, on August 16, at the age of 17 years and 55 days, he became the youngest goal scorer in club history when he scored his first goal in a 3-1 victory over Krystal Kherson.
Later, he played for the Danish team Midtjylland. On August 6, 2023, he went to Girona of La Liga for an alleged 7 million euros, making him the club’s most expensive player ever.
On May 4, Dovbyk helped his team qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever by scoring his 20th goal and dishing up an assist in a 4–2 victory over Barcelona.
When Dovbyk was selected in the 31-man roster for the September 5, 2016, FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Iceland, he received his first call-up to the senior national team of Ukraine at the age of 19.
He debuted for the senior team in a World Cup qualifying against Kazakhstan on March 31, 2021.
On June 29, 2021, Dovbyk was selected for the UEFA Euro 2020. He replaced Andriy Yarmolenko during the round of 16 match against Sweden in extra time.
He helped his team win 2-1 in stoppage time and move on to the quarterfinals by scoring the game-winning goal.
Dovbyk has scored 10 goals for Ukraine’s national team and made 28 appearances for the country till far.
