An employee of a Pork company in central Iowa is explaining how he and his coworkers learned they would not have a job on June 28.
Demarco Tolson has been employed for nearly two years at the Tyson Foods facility in Perry. He claimed that on Monday afternoon, workers were urged to congregate in the plant’s cafeteria. He discovered there that the plant was closing down permanently.
Affected by the closure, he added that he is the only one who can support his partner Danielle and their two sons financially. Danielle remarked, “I am not sure how we’re going to pay our bills now, buy food, and do other things like that.” “Very afraid.” Tolson resides in Yale with his family. A month ago, they relocated there to be nearer to the facility.
Administrator Sven Peterson of Perry City stated that everyone knows someone who works at the Tyson facility. Perry will suffer from this closure, according to Peterson. Tyson Foods acknowledged the impact and half of the 1,300 affected employees commute from nearby towns like Tolson and half of them reside in Perry.
Further added, “We are aware of how this choice will affect the people on our team and in the neighborhood. Our team members’ well-being is our first concern, and we encourage them to apply for any available positions inside the organization.
Tyson Foods continues to view Iowa as a critical state, employing over 9,000 team members in our other Iowa facilities.”The corporation states that June 28 is the last day of work in a letter.”
According to a statement issued by Governor Kim Reynolds regarding the closure, “The state of Iowa will provide complete assistance to Tyler employees, the Perry community and pork producers in the months preceding and following the plant shutdown. Iowa Workforce Development and the Iowa Economic Development Authority are prepared to help affected workers locate new positions in the region as quickly as feasible. IowaWorks.gov now has over 60,000 job postings listed, and IWD offers one-on-one career counseling to anyone looking for work.
