At Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, a full-fledged five-on-five riot broke out two seconds after the puck dropped by the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils.
Eight players in all, four from each team, were removed from the game before it had lasted a single minute when the fighting broke out.
The primary altercation took out at center ice between Devils defenseman Kurtis MacDermid and Rangers forward Matt Rempe, even after the other players had separated.
The 21-year-old Rempe had refused to engage in combat with MacDermid early in the game when the sides squared off at Madison Square Garden last month.Idk.”I’ll always respect him a great deal; I know he’s a young player trying to make ends meet and stay in the league.
MacDermid told reporters following the game, “He’s a big, tough, strong kid who will learn. “He continued, calling the huge brawl a “spur of the moment” affair and saying he hadn’t expected other players from both sides to become involved.
“Seeing the team come together in that way and just put one another’s backs out there is great,” MacDermid remarked. The rest of the team took a lot of the blame for the minutes after that, played with intensity, and had a fantastic game tonight. simply failed to grasp the two points.
Chris Kreider’s power play goal late in the intense game gave the Rangers a 4-3 victory. Jacob Trouba, K’Andre Miller, Barclay Goodrow, Rempe, and Kevin Bahl of New Jersey, as well as Chris Tierney, MacDermid, John Marino, and Kevin Bahl, were all dismissed. Following the altercation, interim head coach Travis Green of the Devils and head coach Peter Laviolette of the Rangers got into a furious argument.
“A lot was happening,” Green said to the press. Of course, the game began with five bouts. I wonder if it was what everyone was anticipating. This is a sentimental game.
“As far as Peter and I are concerned, I see that he’s yelling and chatting to me, and I’m more than happy to go talk to him.
