Walmart may be able to compensate some supermarket buyers in cash as part of the company’s recent $45 million settlement.
In certain instances, clients may receive a refund of up to $500. Customers were allegedly charged more for some sold-by-weight products, including bagged fruit, than the “lowest advertised per pound/ounce price,” according to a copy of the lawsuit filed in October 2022 that FOX Business was able to get.
This includes some organic oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and navel oranges that are sold in bulk in mesh or plastic bags, as well as some meat, chicken, hog, and marine items that are sold by weight.

Walmart decided to pay tens of millions of dollars to settle the lawsuit, despite the fact that it has refuted these claims. “To help our clients save money on the things they need and want, we will keep offering our everyday low prices.
We continue denying the allegations, but we feel that a resolution is in the best interests of both parties,” Walmart told FOX Business in a statement. Customers who were affected by the settlement may submit a claim for cash payments.
Court papers say that customers can get the discount if they buy certain weighed goods and bagged fruit at a Walmart store, supercenter, or nearby market in Puerto Rico or the U.S. between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024.
The amount received is determined by a number of circumstances, including whether the customer provides proof of purchase.
People who don’t have their receipts can get between $10 and $25. People who do have their receipts can get up to $500, which is 2% of the total cost of each item they bought. Customers can check online to see if they can file a claim. June 5 is the last day to do this.
